Understanding Metals & Non-metals
Physical Properties Of Metals 1. Physical State : Metals are solids at room temperature with exception of mercury and gallium. 2. Lustre : Metals have a shine in their pure forms. 3. Malleability : Metals can be made into thin sheet. 4. Ductility : The ability of metals to be drawn into thin wires is called Ductility. 5.Metals are good conductors of heat and electricity . 6.Metals have high density . 7.Metals are generally hard . 8.Metals have high melting and boiling points . 9. Sonorous : The metals produce a sound on striking a hard surface. Physical Properties Of Non-Metals 1.Non-metals are either in solid or gaseous state with the exception of bromine which is in liquid state. 2.Non-metals do not have lustre ,except iodine. 3.Non-metals are not malleable 4.Non-metals are not ductile . 5.Non-metals are poor conductors of heat . 6.Non-metals do not possess the property of hardness except carbon in the form of diamond. It is the ha...
